about the project...
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is one of the largest unitary council authorities in the UK. Geographically the council covers a large physical area which includes diverse communities from small rural villages and coastal resorts to large bustling towns and suburbs.

One particular challenge faced by many local authorities and especially those with a large rural infrastructure is keeping the roads safe and passable during the unpredictable British winter weather. It’s a unique resourcing issue; how to recruit, retain and motivate suitably qualified staff who may only be needed on a sporadic basis but when they are often find themselves working long consecutive night shifts.

We produced a video to help East Riding council address the challenge. Through live action footage with maintenance crew out on winter roads and interviews with existing personnel the video makes it clear what the job entails and what the expectations of staff are.

Given the large geographical area covered by the East Riding Council and the rural nature of many of its communities many children travel to school on council run bus services – some for considerable distances. The council faced a challenge with mounting levels of bad behaviour and resultant accident levels. Eon Visual Media produced a video highlighting the issues arising from bad behaviour and mis-use of the council’s home to school transport service. The video was used as part of a wider programme of presentations called ‘Buswise’ as well as being available as a stand alone DVD.
In order to ensure credibility with the films target audience the script for the video was developed in conjunction with East Riding’s Youth Council.

The Civic Head of East Riding of Yorkshire Council is referred to as ‘a Chairman’ rather than ‘a Mayor’ each year The Chairman’s awards acknowledge and celebrate the work and contribution of the often unsung community heroes from across the county. Local people are invited to nominate candidates in a number of categories. We produced a video featuring each of the shortlisted candidates in each category. The video is played as part of the awards presentation ceremony.
